U8 match reports 2008/09

Sunday 09th November

Once again a bright and sunny day for Rugby even if the wind was a little harsh and the ground a little wet. Today saw us welcome Stewart & Lloyds and Leicester Forest .
Our first match was against Stewart & Lloyds. The training of past weeks certainly showed through. Some excellent passing was seen with the whole team involved in the game. Particularly good tagging was seen from W Boyall , O Palmer and C Jackson. Two great darting runs saw L Flynn score 2 tries with 2 further tries added by J Watts and W Boyall . All in all probably our best performance to date and therefore a very disappointing match to lose 6 tries to 4.
We then held a minutes silence at 1 1 am and all teams are to be commended on their behaviour and level of respect.
The second match was Leicester Forest against Stewart and Lloyds our chance to spot their weaknesses! Well we looked hard and watched some great tries which saw Leicester Forest win 6 tries to 4.
The final match then saw us against Leicester Forest . We kept us some of the good work although our defines was not so great. We still saw some great tags from H Overton and 2 from L Flynn but their attacks proved too strong. We kept in touch with tries from O Palmer and W Boyall to see us 6 tries to 2 down at half time. Further tries followed from J Watts and 2 more for W Boyall to get his hat trick, but unfortunately, we also conceded a few which saw us lose the match 12 tries to 6.
Overall, some great improvement in our play particularly when attacking and passing, but a little more work boys on our defence.
Thats it for this week, training next Sunday at 1 0.00 am dont forget dads its our turn in the kitchen! See you then!

This week saw us away at Syston on a bright and sunny day. Everyone managed to remember to change their clocks and we had 7 players for our matches.

The first match saw us 4 2 down at half time with our tries being scored by C Jackson and W Boyall. The second half saw us lose our defensive line too much as Syston moved further ahead. Following a long high pass from O Palmer and an excellent catch from C Jackson, he then ran in our third try. A further try then followed from O Palmer and the match finished a disappointing 8 4 to Syston.

The second match saw more passing between the team and moving the ball around. There was an improvement in the tagging as well which made for a much improved performance. Tries were scored by J Watts and L Flynn in a game that finished 6 2 to Syston.

The final match saw a change in our tactics. Rather than waiting to be tagged to pass, the team looked to pass the ball around before being caught. This made for a much faster game and team approach. Unfortunately, L Flynn was on for an excellent try at the end of a darting run if it wasnt for the foot in touch! More excellent runs from W Boyall and C Jackson saw us come close but unfortunately, no try at the end. Try saving tags from both J Watts and L Flynn helped with the score in a game which we unfortunately lost 5 0.

All in all, a much improved performance and well done to all! A few more players would certainly help, so speak to your friends and lets see if we can build an even stronger team.

See you next week for training at 10am as usual.

Sunday 05th October

Thanks to everyone for turning out on a wet cold morning for our first match of the season. We were joined by teams from Market Harborough, Aylestone St James and Stewart and Lloyds to give us all some much needed fun and practice.

Our first match was against Market Harborough won 8 6 unfortunatly i was not there to see the game.

On to the 2nd match against Jimmys. All showed a great improvement in tagging with some particularly good work from H.Overton and tries from W.Boyal, L Flynn and J.Watts all the in the first half saw us 3 nil up at half time. Some disappointing knock ons and running out of the pitch saw us relinquish the lead and in the last play of the game stood at 3 all. Some excellent team work and a darting run from W.Overton saw us score the final try of the match in the dying seconds to win 4 3. Well done all!

Our final match was against Stewart and Lloyds. This saw us with a best half of play to date with great defending by all including L.Sharpe on their debuts. We were 1 nil down at half time with everything to play for. Unfortunately, the cold and wet took a little of our concentration and despite some great team play and a weaving try from L.Flynn we were to lose the match 4 1.

All in all, a great start to the season on a difficult day. Well done all, see you for training with Andy next week!
